For the third straight week Gabe Sommers brought home a top-ten finish behind the wheel of his Super Late Model.  The latest outing, a seventh-place finish, came in round one of the TUNCRA Super Late Model Series at Wisconsin International raceway.

“I was pretty happy with the weekend,” said Sommers.  “Everything went pretty good and to bring home another top-ten finish to start out the season feels great.”

This marked the Plover, WI driver’s first trip to the ‘tricky triangle’ in a Super Late Model.  He went on to qualify in the 10th position and with the invert started fifth.  He hovered inside the top-ten for the entire 50 laps and eventually recorded a seventh-place finish.

“Making the race on time and turning all the laps was a big goal of mine,” said Sommers.  “So, I’m happy we could accomplish that.  I continue to learn each time I’m behind the wheel of a Super Late Model.  I really liked WIR, it’s a fun track and it is also very unique. There is lots of speed you can pick up with small movements.”

For the 15-year-old driver, this was a solid start to the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series, which consists of six races throughout the state of Wisconsin.

“I’m really happy with that start to the TUNDRA Series,” said Sommers.  “Hopefully that will continue throughout the whole year.  They have a lot of good drivers and if we can stay consistent that will be important.”

Next up for Sommers it the Dick Trickle 99 at Golden Sands Speedway (WI) on Monday, May 28th.  The next TUNDRA event will be held on Saturday, June 9th at Marshfield Motor Speedway (WI).

he gets set to compete in the ARCA Midwest Tour Joe Shear Classic Sunday at Madison International Speedway.
