Gabe Sommers brought home his best finish of the year on Memorial Day with a sixth-place finish at the Trickle 99 at Golden Sands Speedway (WI).  Sommers also claimed his highest qualifying effort of the season, starting fourth for the 99-lap event.

The Plover, WI driver raced as high as third during the race before the handling went away on the No. 15 Kwik Trip, Wysocki Family Companies, Allied Cooperative machine. The teenage racer hung on to an ill-handling car for a sixth-place result.

“I had a really good car in the beginning and unfortunately when the caution came out the car got out of shape for the last 20 laps,” said Sommers.

Sommers was set to return to Dells Raceway Park this past Saturday for the second race of the Alive for Five Series, but Mother Nature had other plans and the race was postponed until June 23rd.

Now, Sommer sets his sights on his first trip of the season to Marshfield Motor Speedway (WI) this Saturday for the Bev Achenbrenner Memorial.

“If I can find the line right away I think that will help,” said Sommers.  “Then we can focus on set-up and getting the car dialed in.  I have not had the opportunity to race at Marshfield yet, but we have been told it’s similar to Cedar Rapids in Iowa. I ran pretty good there in a truck and liked it a lot.”

This Saturday’s race in Marshfield also marks the second race of the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series.  Sommers earned a seventh-place finish in the series’ first race of the year at Wisconsin International Speedway.  Sommers now hopes to keep the momentum rolling through the weekend.

“I can’t wait to run with TUNDRA again, it’s fun racing with those guys” said Sommers.  “I am hoping for a top-five finish.  That would be a great day.  Hopefully we can keep a good run going in TUNDRA and capture Rookie of the Year honors.”
