Gabe Sommers earned his first top-five finish of the year Saturday at Jefferson Speedway with the TUNDRA Series.

With on-again, off-again rain showers throughout the day, Sommers and the other drivers were happy just to get the race in. When rain came just after the halfway point, the Plover, WI driver found himself in the fourth position for his highest finish of the year, putting an even bigger smile on the young driver’s face.

“It was a really good run,” said Sommers.  “At the start of the day the car was very close and had good balance.  The rain always has an impact on the track going from having rubber on the track to have it be green.  It made it harder to predict what the track was going to do as we went into the race.”

With the invert, Sommers started the race from the outside of the front row and held steady towards the front of the field for the duration. His fourth-place finish moved him into sixth place in the series’ point standings and widened his lead for Rookie of the Year honors.

“We got a good finish at Jefferson and that will help the points,” said Sommers.  “It gives us confidence for the races we have approaching.  It’s a very good series and I can’t wait for the next race.”

Next on the docket for Sommers is another trip to Dells Raceway Park (WI) for the fourth race of the Alive for Five Series on Saturday, August 4th.
