Gabe Sommers earned his second straight top-ten finish of the 2018 season, this time at Golden Sands Speedway for The Thaw.

“It was a great day,” said Sommers.  “The car was good from the start.  I thought I had a little more in me, I thought maybe I had a top-five car, but I’m pleased with a top-ten finish.”

The Wisconsin driver qualified in the sixth position and remained steady in the top six for the first 25 laps.  Sommers fell back to tenth during the middle portion or the race, before rallying with his Allied Cooperative Kwik Trip Wysocki Family of Companies No. 15 over the final 25 laps to bring home a seventh-place finish.

“I’ve learned a ton in the Super Late already and I feel so much more comfortable,” said Sommers.  “It’s just as simple as knowing where the front end of the car is.”

This marks the second straight week that Sommers has had a solid qualifying effort, locking himself in on time.  With a rigorous 2018 schedule the ability to qualify well will be important.

“The good qualifying efforts really give me confidence,” said Sommers.  “I really have not been that good at it and I know for some of the big races I need to make it in on time.”

There is no time off for Sommers as he gets set to compete in the ARCA Midwest Tour Joe Shear Classic Sunday at Madison International Speedway.
