Gabe Sommers earned an 11th place finish Saturday at Dells Raceway Park in round two of the Alive for Five Series.  The Plover, WI driver practiced well all day, but did not quite have the same luck in qualifying. He then drove from the back towards the front to finish just outside the top ten.

“It was a pretty crazy weekend,” said Sommers.  “I ran good in practice, I think pretty much top-five all day and the car was really close for the feature, just messed qualifying up.  I almost lost it in (turns) one and two, so that put us in a pretty deep starting position for the feature.”

Sommers rolled off 21st and gained some ground before making contact with another car. He was then sent to the rear of the field a quarter through the Trickle 99.  Sommers moved inside the top-15 on lap 40 and raced as high as tenth with less than 20 laps to go.  Over those final laps he fell back to 11th, where he would finish.

“I was gaining places and got into somebody and had to go to the back,” said Sommers.  “I came back to 11th, but the car was much better than 11th place.”

The Trickle 99 marked the second of the five race Alive for Five Series at Dells Raceway Park.  Sommers plans to compete in the full series and continues to learn more and more each time he hits the track in Wisconsin Dells.

“I learned a few things,” said Sommers.  “One of those is that the groove changes a bit in turns three and four.  In the race it took a little bit to find, but once I did the car was much quicker.”

Next up for Sommers is the first Wisconsin Challenge Series race of the year at State Park Speedway on Thursday night.
