Just under a month ago, Gabe Sommers opened his ARCA Midwest Tour season at Madison International Speedway for the Joe Shear Classic. The Plover, WI driver raced in the top-five throughout the opening laps before he was caught up in an incident just past lap 50 that ended his day early.  Now the young driver is excited to return to the Madison, WI track for Friday’s Alive for Five race.

“We had such a good car at the Joe Shear Classic,” said Sommers.  “Hopefully we can show them what kind of car we have on Friday night.”

Friday’s Alive for Five Series Round #2 will consist of twin 50-lpa events for the Super Late Models.  Practice begins at 4:00pm with qualifying at 6:15pm and racing at 7:30pm.

The race at Madison International Speedway comes fresh off a top-ten finish for Sommer’s in last weekend’s ARCA Midwest Tour race at Jefferson Speedway.  The 16-year-old driver lost brakes early in the race but was one of the fastest cars on track and the end of the race still held on to finish ninth, his highest Midwest Tour finish of the year.

“I thought we had a great car at Jefferson,” said Sommers.  “We lost braked just before halfway through the race.  It slowed us down quite a bit.  With the last caution of the race we gained them back a little bit and it showed.”
