Gabe Sommers posted a strong run last week at the Rich Somers Memorial at Wisconsin International Raceway. The annual race in memory of his late cousin, Sommers started just inside the top-ten and worked his way into the top-five with just eight laps to go in the 35-lap feature. He picked up one more spot over the closing laps to come home fourth.
“We race really good at KK,” said Sommers. “It was a lot of fun and it feels good to be able to represent Rich like that. If we would have had one more yellow, I think we would have been able to take the win.”
The Plover, WI driver returns to Dells Raceway Park this Saturday for the second-to-last ARCA Midwest Tour race of the year. Sommers picked up his first career TUNDRA Series win at the Wisconsin Dells racetrack early in July and looks forward to the return.
“I’m very excited to get back to Dells,” said Sommers. “We had a great car last time we were there and we found a few more things to help even more. There will be a lot of competition, but I think we will have a car to beat.”
Sommers also currently leads the Midwest Tour Rookie of the Year standings by just one point over Carson Kvapil with two races remaining.
“We just have to run good the last two races and get some more good finishes to take the Rookie of the Year,” said Sommers.
