PLOVER, WI – Local driver Gabe Sommers is set to compete against 40-plus drivers from all corners of the nation at the Joe Shear Classic 200 on May 7th, the second race of the inaugural ASA STARS National Tour season at Madison International Speedway. Sommers, who has had thirteen starts at the high banked half mile, aims to improve upon his sixth place finish at the opening round of the STARS Tour at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.

“With a slightly different rules package combined with the strongest beginning of a season for GSR in recent memory, both driver and team are hungry for more,” said Sommers. He added, “Wisconsin’s Fastest Half Mile has seen mixed results for me in the past, but I feel that my prior experience of running with this rules package in Pensacola will give me an advantage few have in the field.”

Sommers believes that the strategy of saving tires early and racing hard at the end will make for some good racing at the Joe Shear Classic. With a pair of top ten finishes in his previous two starts in the race, he is determined to capitalize on the momentum gained thus far in 2023.

The Joe Shear Classic 200 promises to be a race to remember, and those who cannot attend in person can tune in on TrackTV.com, MidwestTour.tv, SpeedSport.tv, or on Racing America on Sunday, May 7th. Qualifying begins at 12:45 PM CST, and Racing begins at 2:00 PM, with broadcasts starting at 12:30 PM CST.
