Gabe Sommers Racing took on their second Trickle 99 of the year this past Saturday, the popularly named race taking place this time at Dells Raceway Park as the second of five races for the Alive For 5 Super Late Model Series. An early exit in the Icebreaker 100 back in April meant that GSR would have to make the most of every race looking forward, maximizing points wherever possible in the short five race series.

GSR unloaded on Saturday morning ready to get as many laps as possible in race trim. Gabe would head out for a 20 lap jaunt in the opening round of practice, getting familiar with their package for the day. Not entirely happy with the feel, Travis Sauter and the crew went to work, making swings to find some pace in the No. 15 Ford Mustang. After another 20 laps of hustling his way around Dells Raceway Park, Sommers would find himself in the fourth spot on the time charts at the conclusion of the second session. One final practice session would go quietly for GSR, rounding out their afternoon with an eighth place effort before shifting gears towards qualifying trim.

GSR had been on a tear in qualifying trim to this point in 2025, with multiple fast times under their belts. This qualifying session would be no different, with Gabe laying down a scorching 13.190 second lap, good enough for pole position by just over twenty five thousandths of a second. A mandatory heat race would follow, where the No. 15 would sit in the back and out of harm’s way, saving tires and body panels for the 99 lap main event later in the night.

Rolling off from sixth place in the Trickle 99, the No. 15 Ford Mustang would have to be ready to move quickly. The new right side tires from Hooiser have gained a reputation for being able to take a lot of abuse, taking emphasis away from riding in line for too long during a green flag run. Calamity didn’t wait long to enter the chat in the Trickle 99, with another front runner falling victim to an expired engine on Lap 5/99, wiping out a few cars as Gabe slipped past underneath the wreckage without a scratch. Restarting in third after the early yellow, Sommers went to battle for the lead, briefly claiming one lap led on the 12th circuit, before settling back into second place. A high speed game of cat and mouse would ensue after, with the top three runners under a blanket on the tight ⅓ mile bullring. A brief battle was had for the runner up spot between laps 73 – 75, With the No. 15 dropping one place, but still on the podium. That third position would prove to be the final and finishing position for GSR, who loaded up on the trailer in one piece, and with another strong run.

The strong momentum will hopefully carry into an ASA STARS National Tour doubleheader on June 13 and 15, with a combined 550 laps to be run between Madison International Speedway and Slinger Super Speedway.
