Sommers to open season at Golden Sands

PLOVER, Wis. — Gabe Sommers Racing is excited to announce its first race is set for Memorial Day at Golden Sands Speedway.

Gabe Sommers and the No. 15 Toyota super late model will enter the Dick Trickle Memorial race at the third-mile bowl in Plover on Monday, May 25. It will be GSR’s first event since traveling to North Carolina in early March.

The 99-lap feature named for the Wisconsin racing legend wasn’t intended to be the kickoff event of Sommers’ midwest schedule, but the reigning Midwest ARCA Tour Rookie of the Year is happy to have the chance to run at his home track. Sommers won a TUNDRA Series race last September last time he raced at Golden Sands.

“Not being able to race has hurt a little bit, but we’re going to get acclimated to the car and get ready for Monday,” Sommers said.

Sommers, GSR crew chief Chris Wimmer and the rest of the team worked hard in the shop during the Covid-19 lockdown to ensure everything is ready to go.

Thank you, sponsors

Gabe Sommers Racing sponsor Tasteful Selections has added a $250 top qualifier bonus for Monday’s super late field.

“Thanks to the sponsors for sticking with us through the hard time,” Sommers said. “Hopefully we can make it happen and support their names.”

Sponsors for the 2020 campaign include Dekalb, Tasteful Selections, Kwik Trip, Allied Cooperative, Wysocki Produce Farm, Bushman Sign & Crane, Wood Street Rental, Midway Machine LLC, Meadowview Farm, Dave’s White Rock Tavern, Coca-Cola and Wimmer Motorsports

Gabe Sommers Racing plans to announce future additions to its 2020 schedule in the near future as track organizers finalize events that had been restricted in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
